Chief Gerald Legge was born in Sunflower County, Mississippi. He attended public schools in
Batesville, Mississippi and graduated from South Panola High School in 1976. He attended Northwest Mississippi Jr. College in Criminal Justice before beginning his law enforcement career with the Batesville Police Department in 1981 at the age of 21. He graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy in 1982. Chief Legge worked approximately 9 years in patrol being promoted to Lieutenant. He also served for a time as the departments designated DUI Officer and in 1988, Chief Legge was part of the first class of D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officers trained in Mississippi. He remains active with the program to this date serving as a D.A.R.E. Mentor/Trainer and regional D.A.R.E. Instructor representative to D.A.R.E. America. In 2005, Chief Legge was selected as the D.A.R.E. Officer Of The Year for the state of Mississippi. He was promoted to Deputy Chief on September 24, 1990 serving in that capacity until 2005 when he was promoted to Chief of Police for the Batesville Police Department on June 21, 2005. He is married and has one daughter. |
